We are overjoyed to announce that our fundraising campaign to Return Greatness to the Forest has been a tremendous success, surpassing our ambitious goal! Thanks to your unwavering support and generosity, we’ve raised an astounding $28,991 to ensure the reintroduction of Great Green Macaws into their natural habitat.
A Journey of Hope
Angel, Sonia D, Frida K, and all of their friends have been preparing for this moment, building strong flight muscles and learning to forage for wild fruits at our Punta Islita Breeding Center. Now, thanks to your help, they have a very exciting future ahead! They will be the first to fly above the canopy in the forests their ancestors once roamed, filling the ecological gap left by their absence. As they discover the best foraging and roosting places, they will pave the way for the next cohort, creating a ripple effect that will lead to the true rewilding of this incredible species.

Your support has funded critical aspects of their upcoming reintroduction: essential medical check-ups, a field team ready to support the flock, supplementary food and supplies, and ensuring a perfect release site in Northern Costa Rica.

As we prepare for the release, we are filled with anticipation and hope. Angel and her friends are ready to explore the wild, spread their wings, and make a home in the forests. This reintroduction is more than just releasing birds into the wild; it’s about healing an ecosystem and fostering a bond between the macaws and the local community.
Pamela, our Outreach Program Manager, is already working closely with the community, building connections, and ensuring that the habitat is ready for our feathered friends. After finding the most suitable release site, we’ll fine-tune details to ensure everything’s ready for the birds to be released into the wild. With your continued support, we can ensure that these efforts lead to a lasting and positive impact!
