Macaw Recovery Network: Year-End Giving Campaign 2024

Supporting Conservation & Community in Costa Rica

Dear Supporter,

As we approach the end of 2024, we want to share how your generosity can make a lasting impact on our work to protect endangered Macaws and their habitats in Costa Rica. With the giving season fast approaching, we are launching a series of campaigns to advance conservation and community-driven programs that are essential to our mission.

This year, your support is more important than ever. With political uncertainty surrounding the upcoming elections, many are wondering how the outcomes might affect nonprofit giving. What remains clear, however, is that donating to vital environmental and social programs delivers tangible results and creates long-lasting positive change on a global scale.

Ways you can make a BIG IMPACT:

1. Empower Women Rangers to Plant 10,000 Trees (a partnership with Plant for the Planet)

Dates: Black Friday (Nov 29) through Giving Tuesday (Dec 3)*

Focus: Join us in celebrating Dr. Sam Williams’ 10-year anniversary of leading Parrot conservation in Costa Rica by planting 10,000 trees! Your gift will empower our Women Rangers (Yendri, Maria Elena and Suyén) to restore critical habitat for Great Green Macaws through reforesting 65 hectares in the Sarapiquí Rainforest Reserve. A huge undertaking they cannot do with you!

Goal: 10,000 trees

*These dates reflect the launch of a long-term and ongoing fundraising campaign which consists of two phases; the planting of trees (2025) and maintenance of the reforested area (2026-2028).

2. Enable vital Parrot conservation programs (with Year-End Matching Gift)

Dates: December 4 – December 31

Focus: For the remainder of December, donations will go towards programmatic support that fuels our work into 2025, including the rewilding of Macaws, field research, community engagement, and long-term habitat protection. During the last days of the year, a generous matching gift will give you the opportunity to double your impact!

Goal: $75,000

3. Other Ways to Give

  • Consider becoming a Legacy Guardian: Planned giving ensures the work important to you continues past your lifetime. There are many ways to make a planned gift.
  • Gifts of Stock & Securities: Maximize your Gift, Minimize Taxes – Donating appreciated stocks, bonds, or mutual funds is a tax-savvy way to support MRN. You can avoid capital gains tax and receive a charitable deduction for the full market value of your securities, all while making a lasting impact.
  • Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs): Flexible and Convenient Giving – Recommend grants to MRN from your DAF and make giving easy. You can enjoy the flexibility of making charitable contributions over time while ensuring that your philanthropic intentions are fulfilled.

Why give to the Macaw Recovery Network?

  • Direct impact: Your donation goes directly to conservation projects that protect endangered species and empower local communities.
  • Tax deductible: Unlike political donations, all types of gifts to nonprofits are tax deductible, allowing you to support causes you care about while benefiting from tax savings. Consider a non-cash gift this season when you are split between causes.
  • Sustainable change: Environmental and community-based projects create lasting change, even for those living in North America or Europe, ensuring future generations inherit a thriving planet.

How to Give:

In short:

This year, your donation can have double the impact with our year-end matching gift campaign. From Black Friday to Giving Tuesday, support our Reforestation of the Reserve and Women Ranger program through the Plant for the Planet campaign. Your gift supports vital conservation projects and is tax-deductible. Help us protect Macaws and create lasting change.

We thank you for your continued support. Your contribution ensures that the Macaw Recovery Network can continue protecting endangered Macaws and the ecosystems they call home. Together, we can make a difference for conservation and communities.

Warm regards,

Sarah and the Macaw Recovery Network Team
